Location & Transportation
Furutakiya is located in the Yumoto Onsen area, approximately a 2-hour JR train ride from Tokyo. The hotel’s location is very convenient, just a 10-minute walk from the station. It’s an ideal choice for travelers who want to quickly arrive and start enjoying their onsen experience. In addition, there’s a Lawson convenience store right next to the hotel, providing convenient daily necessities.
Room Facilities
The hotel rooms are Japanese-Western mixed style with private bathrooms, spacious and comfortable, divided into different areas:
- Dining area
- Bedroom
- Toilet
- Bathroom
- Working area
The rooms also have a balcony where you can breathe fresh air and enjoy the surrounding views.
The hotel consists of the main building and an annex. The Japanese-Western style room I stayed in belongs to the recently renovated building. Considering the needs of modern business travelers, it is specially equipped with a well-equipped working area, making it convenient for guests to work remotely.
It’s important to note that according to the official website, the traditional Japanese-style rooms have not yet been renovated. It is recommended to pay attention to the specific room type when booking to ensure the accommodation experience meets expectations.

Onsen Experience
Furutakiya offers both indoor and outdoor onsen options:
- Indoor onsen decorated with natural rocks, very comfortable and relaxing
- Outdoor onsen with a superior location where you can enjoy street views while soaking
It should be noted that accessing the outdoor onsen requires climbing a short flight of stairs, which travelers with mobility issues should consider.
*The hotel has a dedicated rooftop onsen for female guests. Based on the photos published on the official website, this onsen is really beautiful, but unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy it.
**Starting from September 2024, the rooftop onsen is changed to male-only usage in the morning!!
Conclusion
Overall, Furutakiya offers good value for money. The room facilities are well-equipped, and the onsen quality is excellent with nice views. If you’re looking for a comfortable and convenient place to relax and enjoy authentic Japanese onsen culture, Furutakiya is a worthy consideration.
